fun fact time! in order to compensate for having the same word twice in a row, youll often pronounce the first one differently! that that is pronounced thet that, and had had is pronounced hed had. vernacular is so cool!!!!!
another fun fact!!! in german, you can have the equivalent of “that” three times in a row! thats because “daß” is a conjunction and “das” is an article that can also be used as a relative pronoun. for example, “ich weiß, daß das das buch ist” is correct since the daß is the conjunction that starts the clause, the first das is relative referring to the overarching buch in question, and the second das is simply the article attached to buch!!
